Is Spinal Decompression Your Answer?

Few things are as disruptive to living as chronic back pain, yet sadly millions of Americans struggle with it daily. Even minor back pain can make everyday living harder than it should be, but larger back issues can be debilitating. Unfortunately many people feel that their only choices are to live with the pain or undergo complex surgery.

The good news is that you might be able to take a less invasive approach to conquering your back pain, even if you’re struggling with serious disc issues or severe sciatic pain. Spinal decompression is a non-invasive but effective therapy that can reduce or eliminate many problems that cause back pain. For many people, spinal decompression can offer the relief you need to heal and get back to living.

Who is a good candidate for spinal decompression? Everyone must be evaluated on a case by case basis to know if this therapy might be right for them. In general though, this method is used to help with the following issues:

  • Herniated or ruptured discs

  • Degenerative disc issues

  • Pinched nerves

  • Sciatic pain

Spinal decompression helps to reduce the pressure throughout your spine, allowing blood flow while relieving the pain that comes from nerve compression and disc issues. It does this by gently applying traction that changes the forces within the spine and the position of the discs. Additionally this allows oxygen and nutrient-rich fluids to get to the discs without impedance, helping them heal.

To know if this therapy is right for you, your doctor will evaluate your unique situation. They will take into account your physical problem, pain level, the therapies you’ve tried in the past and other factors before determining if spinal decompression is the best approach. While this therapy might not solve everyone’s back trouble, it is a great non-surgical treatment that helps many people improve their quality of life.
